Marriage, Family and Individual Counseling
Teresa Paine has a doctorate in Marriage and Family Counseling and is a clinical member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and has worked with couples for 30 years.

Marital or Relationship
Counseling
Couples are often caught in a never-ending cycle of repeating the same arguments, conflicts and unhealthy patterns of interaction with no resolution in sight.
Specific issues can be addressed such as parenting, finances, step-family issues and infidelity. Partners typically come into the counseling sessions together, although individual sessions can be scheduled when requested. Couples practice new ways of relating to each other during sessions and when they are at home between sessions.
Questions of whether partners truly want to remain together can be explored, as well as ways to make relationships stronger, happier and more loving. Marriage Counseling can help couples to create the kind of marriage that couples have always hoped for.
Family Counseling
Family Counseling is often helpful when there is a child or an adolescent who is having a problem and can also hlp when a family member is struggling with addiction.. Family Counseling can include any combination of family members being present during a session. A child can be seen alone and at other times with one or both parents. The entire family can be seen together and parents can work together on parenting issues.
We can help with a wide variety of problems including children’s behavior problems, depression, anxiety, addiction, eating disorders and a range of other problems. Since the individual with the symptoms is imbedded in a family system, working with the entire family can be a highly effective means of relieving symptoms and resolving problems

Individual Counseling
Individual Counseling can be helpful for a wide variety of Psychological Problems including depression, anxiety, alcoholism, and other addictions, eating disorders, traumatic life events and PTSD as well as for life events such as divorce, death in the family, career transitions, and changes in life circumstances.
In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Teresa Paine teaches meditation techniques and helps clients make needed lifestyle changes such as establishing healthy eating and exercise routines.
Spiritual issues can also be addressed.
Non-Medication Approaches
Dr. Teresa Paine specializes in non-medication, alternatives for mental health techniques that allow her clients to gain relief from psychological symptoms without having to rely on psychiatric medications.
Eye Movement Desensitization
and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a form of psychotherapy that was developed by a psychologist who was working with Vietnam War veterans who had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from being exposed to disturbing combat experiences.
This technique is now used for the after-effects of a range of distressing life events such as a car accident, an assault, marital infidelity or seemingly less upsetting life circumstances that can cause emotional, psychological distress, and childhood trauma.

Emotional Freedom Technique
This is a technique that clients can learn in psychotherapy sessions and then practice at home. It makes use of tapping on acupuncture points that the clients does to him/ herself.
The underlying theory behind EFT comes from ancient Chinese medicine and acupuncture and involves energy pathways that run through the body. These energy pathways can be blocked by traumatic events and emotional issues. EFT allows these blocks to be cleared so that healing can take place. This is a tool that can be learned in counseling sessions and then used whenever symptoms arise. It can also be used for enhancing well-being and peak performance training.
